Be sure to eat high protein (can be hard boiled eggs, sardines or other
fish) early at the start of your day....this will last you better. When you
are starting to get hungry while driving eat "hard chews" like raw carrots
(you can buy those little ones already peeled and cut), green beans or other
veggies...the chewing creates enzymes in the saliva that reduce the hungry
feeling. Raw nuts also are great. If you want more snack/crisp/crunchy eat
popcorn with interesting seasoning like chile powder, garlic or curry. You
can make a bag of popcorn in the microwave easily with just plain popcorn
and a paper bag....don't get the processed stuff. Sprinkle with chile lime
or garlic salt.
Lunch can be premade sandwiches or wraps are really easier to eat while
driving, cubes of ham and string cheese are easy. Wholewheat flour tortillas
spread and rolled with non-fat refried beans, sprinkled with a chunky salsa
and lettuce leaves. Hummus is also excellent and you can dip celery sticks
into the container while driving. Shouldn't be too messy. Get an adult
bib....seriously....you don't have to worry about drips, can buy one at a
medical supply type store.
In the afternoon if you are starting to "fade" and your blood glucose is
low....have "soft chews" like stone fruit - peaches, plums, nectarines...,
grapes or bananas or other precut fruit - like orange segments or tangerines
come apart easier while driving. This good type of sugar will be easy to
absorb quickly and give you the pick up you need.
You are smart to take care of your health thru diet.
